Since it's October and Halloween is around the corner I thought I would list some of my favorite scary movies for the next three Saturdays. So, here we go......

The Amityville Horror

I have watched this movie only one time, and refuse to ever watch it again. It scared the shit out of me, which is why it is on my list. I think it was one of Margot Kidder's best performances.

The story is based on the alleged real life experiences of the Lutz family who buy a new home on 112 Ocean Avenue, in Amityville, New York, a house where a mass murder had been committed the year before. After the family move into the house, they experience a series of frightening paranormal events.

This movie uses a staple of effective scares: based on “true events.” Whether or not you believe the Lutz family’s account of what happened in the Long Island manse, it's hard not to jump at the bumps in the night. The lesson here: Never move into a house where a murder occurred. Cujo

I love a good Stephen King horror novel but I have never read the book or seen the movie all the way through, however, that damn dog scares the hell of out me!  Here is the plot summary from Wikipedia (just from reading this I know I don't want to read the book):

Donna Trenton (Dee Wallace) is a frustrated housewife whose life is in turmoil after her husband Vic learns about her having an affair. Brett Camber is a young boy and a son of a mechanic, Joe, whose only companion is a St. Bernard named "Cujo" who is bitten by a rabid bat and his behavior changes. While the dog begins to succumb to the disease, Brett and his mother leave for Connecticut to visit his mother's sister. The gentle Cujo, now crazed by the disease, has killed Joe and his friendly neighbour, Gary Pervier. Later, Donna and her young son, Tad, drive up to the Cambers' house. But as they arrive, Cujo appears out of nowhere and tries to attack them, but with Donna and Tad in the car safely, he gives up and walks away. Making matters worse, Donna's Ford Pinto car's alternator dies, meaning the two can't leave. So they are forced to stay inside the Pinto while Cujo waits outside, attacking repeatedly, all while Vic is out of town on a business trip.

The hot sun makes the conditions nearly unbearable, but Donna knows that certain death awaits them outside and decides that she must do something before they both die from either heatstroke or dehydration, but Cujo could be around, however, and attempts at escape are foiled by the repeated attacks of Cujo, who tries to get into the car. The local Sheriff comes to the house for a brief standoff, before Cujo kills him. Donna decides that she must risk going outside to save Tad, but Cujo jumps out from underneath the car and bites her in the leg, forcing her back into the car. Eventually, a badly wounded Donna makes an attempt to dash for the house but is attacked by Cujo, the only safety being the car.

After her brutal struggle against Cujo, Donna takes advantage of a momentary distraction and hits Cujo with a baseball bat several times until the bat breaks off, leaving only a jagged handle. Cujo jumps at her, only to land on the broken handle, impaling him. Donna pushes Cujo off and uses the sheriff's revolver to break open the windshield and retrieve Tad, as Cujo had broken all of the handles. Donna revives her son, who had passed out due to the extreme heat and dehydration. Cujo tears through the kitchen window and uses the last of his strength to try to kill the two, but Donna pulls out the Sheriff's pistol and shoots and kills Cujo. Vic arrives back home and is reunited with Donna and Tad, who is still clinging to life.

Pet Sematary

Love the book, love the movie! I always watch this movie around Halloween. Even though O love this book it took me a few months to read because I had to put it down and forget about it for a while. Here is the plot summary:

"Sometimes dead is better...."
When the Creeds move into a beautiful old house in rural Maine, it all seems too good to be true: physician father, beautiful wife, charming little daughter, adorable infant son — and now an idyllic home. As a family, they've got it all...right down to the friendly cat.
But the nearby woods hide a blood-chilling truth — more terrifying than death itself...and hideously more powerful.

Friday the 13th

In my opinion, this is the best movie in the whole series. 

In 1958, Barry and Claudette, two camp counselors at Camp Crystal Lake, sneak away from a gathering to have sex. An unseen assailant stalking the two of them attacks them and kills them both, one with a hunting knife and the other with a machete. Twenty-one years later, on Friday, June 13th, 1979, a young girl named Annie is making her way to Crystal Lake under the employment of the original camp owners' son Steve Christy who intends to reopen the camp. The history of the murders, water poisonings and fires has the town wary, and Crazy Ralph, a local man, warns her that the counselors are doomed. She shrugs the warnings off and hitches a ride with a truck driver Enos who has similar warnings for her.

Okay, now after reading this, would you still go to the camp? I know I wouldn't! This is a movie where a pillow in front of your face is required.
