How To Clean Your (top loading) Washer

Hi Lovelies!

Today we are going to discuss how to properly clean your (top loading) washer. Clean your washer? Silly question, right? Sounds kind of unnecessary doesn't it? Yes, it does sound that way, but washers need to be cleaned to. Actually it does make perfect sense when you think about all the dirt and grime that cycles through your washer on a day to day basis.

So, here's a very simple method for cleaning your top loading washer:

Step #1: Fill the washer with hot water. Add 3 cups of white vinegar  and let the mixture sit for 2 hours.

Step #2: After about an hour, take out a microfiber cloth and start scrubbing all of the nooks and crannies of your washer, including the knobs, the lid, and the exterior. If you have a built in dispensers, clean those too. If the dispensers are not removable, warm one cup of white vinegar in the microwave or in a small pan. Pour it into the dispenser and allow it to sit up for a few minutes to loosen the buildup.

Step #3: After an hour, run the longest wash and spin cycle.

Now, your washer is shiny and sparkly clean!

Have a happy and wonderful Thursday!!!

What I'm reading Wednesday

Hi Lovelies!

One of my resolutions was to read more because it is something that I love to do and sometimes I just can never find the time for it. Right now, I have only read one book in the last three weeks, however, this is going to be changing, and I would like to read at least one book a week.

The book that I want to share is John Saul's "Hellfire". I have wanted to read this for quite sometime, so when I saw it on our local library I snatched it up before anyone else could grab it.

Summary:

The old mill has been silent for a hundred years, its dread secrets locked from view. Still, the people of Westover, Massachusetts, remember . . . and whisper of that terrible day when horrifying flames claimed eleven innocent young lives. The day the mill's doors slammed shut--forever.

But now, the last of the once-powerful Sturgess family is about to unlock those doors again . . . and unleash an elemental fury. For behind the padlocks, deep within the dark, abandoned building, a terrible vengeance waits. A vengeance conceived in HELLFIRE.

In my opinion, this book was a page turner and has a few twists and turns, but overall it was an intense read. It had sympathetic characters,  a spooky plot, and a heated resolution that all make for a very compelling story.

I would highly recommend this if you love reading suspense novels.

What are you reading today?

Ramblings on a Tuesday

Hi Lovelies!

Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone is staying warm. It's been cold here, but it's nothing we can't handle. I feel for the people who are living in the states were the negative temps are. Stay warm.

Today I wanted to share a random type of post with you today:

It's cold here so we stayed in yesterday and we probably will stay in tomorrow as well. It makes for a very energetic little girl.

We have a busy week coming up: doc appointment, library time, dance class, maybe a dino exhibit, and our annual Superbowl party.

Speaking of the dino exhibit....this is the one we are thinking about going to:

I really want to see  Mr. Peabody and Sherman. I loved Mr. Peabody when I was a kid.

I also want to see this movie:

I'm really loving this outfit right now:

love the colors!

I'm behind on my laundry, who isn't? However, I did clean the washing machine this morning (I'll have a post about how to clean your washer later in the week).

I'm thinking about starting the series "Breaking Bad" or "Sons of Anarchy". Which is the best one?

Is a random kind of day for you? If so, please tell me about in the comments below!

Have a terrific Tuesday Lovelies!

Happy Homemaker Monday

Hi Lovelies!

It's Monday....again. Don't you just hate Mondays? I can say that even though the weekend went by super fast, we did have fun and spent most of the weekend outside, just playing and going for walks.

As I look out the window:

Right now, the sun is just rising, it's windy, and it's cold, so cold. The high is only supposed to be 33 with a windchill of 20. So, I think we will be staying in today, even though we were supposed to take the Little for a re-check on her ears. That can wait until tomorrow.

Right now:

I am watching the Disney channel with the Little, the Husband is still asleep, and I am writing this post.

Thinking and Pondering:

Just thinking about life in general, what we are going to do this week, and how I need to plan me week soon.

On my bedside table (Kindle):

The same books that I have been switching between for the last few weeks. A couple of V.C. Andrews books, a new Stephen King book (Dr. Sleep) and a John Saul book (Second Child).

On my TV tonight:

How I Met Your Mother
A few episodes of Dawson's Creek

Listening to:

The sound of the TV and my daughter's giggle.

On the menu this week:

Monday: Baked potatoes, salad, and a veggie
Tuesday: Tacos, chips and salsa
Wednesday: Chicken Cheesestake sammies, french fries, and salad
Thursday: Baked pork chops, orzo, and veggies
Friday: Beef Stew, cornbread
Saturday: Meatball sammies, and salad
Sunday: (Superbowl) Shredded beef/chicken cheesesteak sammies, potato salad, mini taco salad, totinos pizza rolls, salad, some sort of dessert.

On my to do list:

Laundry
Vacuum all rooms
Work on paper

Plans for the week:

Monday: relaxing and just hanging out at home
Tuesday: relaxing and just hanging out at home and a little bit of studying
Wednesday: a little bit of studying
Thursday: library
Friday: dance class
Saturday: at home date night with the Husband
Sunday: Superbowl party

My simple pleasure:

Reading a good book

Looking around the house:

The house a pretty clean, just a few hot wheels scattered around the living room and the breakfast dishes need to be washed.

On my prayer list:

Family and friends.

Have a great Monday Lovelies!!! Stay warm!!

D*I*V*O*R*C*E

For some reason, every time I hear this particular word, a particular song comes to mind. D*I*V*O*R*C*E by Tammy Wynette.

When I was a little girl, one my of favorite aunts would sing this song to me. I'm not sure why, but at the time I knew that Tammy Wynette was one of her favorite county singers.

As I grew up, I began to realize the significance of the song and just what it really meant. Maybe she was trying to subtly tell me something that my mom just couldn't tell me and help me understand. I don't know (maybe I'll never know), but I do know that I am a child who comes from a divorced family. I also come from a blended or a step family. And let me tell you, it was nothing like what yu see on "The Brady Bunch". Believe me I always wished for that, but sadly that wish never came true.

I remember being confused when at first we were living with a mom and then all of a sudden right after Christmas we were suddenly living with our dad and his girlfriend (who became our a stepmom a few months later). Later I realized that I was also the stepchild that my stepmother never wanted. For some reason she resented me and I still don't know why.

Like I said I come from a divorced family, it might have been the reason why it took so long my husband and I to finally take the plunge and get married. We were together for 16 years and I was 6 months pregnant with our daughter, when he finally proposed to me. I know that coming from this type of family, I know that I will never put my child through what I went through growing up.

My husband and I have our argument, but we always apologize and make up. I just hope that our daughter never ever has to go through what I went through when I was a child.

Togetherness

Hi Lovelies!

Good Morning! It's Friday (insert happy dance)!!!!

Sorry about not posting the last couple of days. Since my current class started a couple of weeks ago, I have been busy trying to keep up all of the readings. Well, all three of us are finally over the colds that we have had for the last two weeks. Hopefully we won't get it again, fingers crossed.

I thought I would share what my day was like yesterday. Actually, it was a great day filled with homemaking duties, making the most delicious homemade recipes, and just hanging out with the two most important people in my life.

My morning was spent fixing breakfast for the Little, who ate peanut butter toast, a popsicle, and a granola bar (her appitite has been off because of the medicine she is taking for an ear infection). I made myself a bagel with a little bit of cream cheese, and the husband ate oatmeal and blueberries. After breakfast and while the Little was watching the Disney Channel, I started making beef stew. I cut up the veggies (potaotes and carrots), browned the stew meat, threw everything in the crockpot along with some beefy mushroom soup, and a can of beef broth and waited for the yumminess to come together and this is the result:

Then after some quiet time, we ate some delicious apple pie (that I had made that morning)....

Then the rest of the day was filled a little bit of cleaning here and there and playing with the Little. It was such a fun and relaxing day, and I am happiest in the kitchen making yummy, scrumptious meals that my family loves.

I love days like yesterday and I hope to have many more of them in the future.

Have a wondeful Friday and I'll be back in the evening with another post.

Random Thoughts on a Wednesday

Hi Lovelies!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Tuesday. I just wanted to share some jumbled thoughts that have been running through my head all day.

  • I wanted to write a Tasty Tuesday post today, but I just haven't found a recipe that I have wanted to try. Although, I think I will make some Chicken Lasgana rolls up and some traditional lasgna roll ups.
  • I have been watching Crazy Heart on Amazon Prime and I'm loving it. Who knew Jeff Bridges and Colin Farrell could sing.
  • I really need to work on the second part of my paper and I still need to read two chapters for this week.
  • I love my new haircut.
  • I'm excited about my birthday next month. Age is just a number ladies!
  • Teen Mom 2 is back (one of my guilty pleasures)
  • Keeping Up With the Kardashians season premire was Sunday and Monday. So excited and yes it is one of my guilty pleasures.
  • I watched the remake of "Flowers in the Attic" on Lifetime this past Saturday. I still think the book is better, they seemed to have glossed over some of the more important parts of the book, which I thought were important.
  • I can't wait for the Lifetime movie "Lizzy Borden Took an Ax". It premires next Saturday. For some reason I have always been facinated with this particular story.
  • I'm currently reading "Hellfire" by John Saul. He is a great story teller. I'm biting my nails while reading this book.

That's all the ramdomness that I have for now. Have a great Tuesday and I'll see ya tomorrow!

Tasty Tuesday- Cheesy Slow Cooker Meatballs

Hi Lovelies!

Welcome to another edition of Tasty Tuesday! I know this post is going up late, but today has been a busy day ( with homemaking and playing with the Little) and I am just now sitting down at the computer.

I don't know about you, but spaghetti and meatballs are one of my favorite comfort foods. Even the Little loves them and just devours an entire plateful. Now, I have never thought about sneaking some cheese in the centers of the meatballs, but I think I might just have to try this the next time I make this meal. Since the Little loves cheese, I think this will be a big hit with her.

For some reason the Little will not any type of food on a stick except for popsicles. Weird, I know, but that's just how she is. So, I think I will just stick to good ol' Pepridge Farm Garlic Bread.I have made this recipe before, I just haven't taken any pictures of it. The next time I make it I will post the pics of it.

Here is today's recipe: Cheesy Slow Cooker Meatballs

Ingredients

Meatballs and Sauce

1 1/2 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef
1/2 cup Progresso® Italian style bread crumbs
2 tablespoons milk
1 egg, slightly beaten
Salt and pepper to taste
5 mozzarella cheese sticks, cut into small pieces
1 jar (24 oz) tomato pasta sauce

Pasta

1 package (l lb) pasta

Steps

1 In large bowl, mix beef, bread crumbs, milk egg, salt and pepper with hands until well combined. Shape mixture into small balls about the size of a Ping-Pong ball.

2 With finger, make hole in 1 ball but do not go all the way through. Place 1 piece of cheese in hole; enclose cheese by pinching hole back together. Repeat with remaining beef mixture and cheese pieces.

3 Spray 3 1/2- to 4-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. Pour pasta sauce into cooker. Place meatballs in sauce.

4 Cover; cook on Low heat setting 4 hours.

5 About 25 to 30 minutes before meatballs are done, cook pasta as directed on package; drain.

Enjoy!

Where would I be.......

I recently saw a status update that posed the following question: Where do you think you would be if you hadn't met your significant other? This is something that I think about quite a bit, I know that I would not be the person that I am now and I know I would not be a wife and a mother. As some of you know, the Hubbs and I have known each other since the third grade and all through school we had the same circle of friends and I had a crush on him all through high school (he did not know this). He finally started talking to me about a year and half after we graduated and we started dating in March of 1993. We have been together for 20 years and we have been through so much that has made us that much stronger.

Now back to the question: Where do you think you would be if you hadn't met your significant other?

I would not have the life that I have now. I would be 40, single, and still living with my parents and taking care of them, babysitting my nieces and nephews, and just not having a life of my own. I thank God every day that Paul saw me leave my parent's house, picked me up, and took me to his parents where I lived for a year until we found a place of our own. I would not have Angelina and I would not have Paul. They are the best blessings that a girl could ever have. I love them so much and they have given me the life that I have always wanted.

Now, it's your turn to answer the question:
Where do you think you would be if you hadn't met your significant other?

Saturday Inspiration: Kitchen Command Centers

It's the start of a new year and that means a new list of projects. This list will include....

Creating a kitchen command center

It is something that I have always wanted to do for a while because I think it will eliminate all of the counter clutter and it will help to tidy up my kitchen and create a little tiny office space. I just haven't tackled this paricular project yet, because I'm in the process of rearranging my kitchen in order to make this happen. Right now, I have a counter where I have my microwave with a set of cabinets above it that serves as my pantry. I'm planning on moving the microwave to the counter by the stove and I'm moving the drain board to the other side of the kitchen sink. And then I will take the empty counter and turn that into my kitchen command center.

I wanted to get some inspiration, so I turned to pinterest and here's what I found:

Everything that I have pinned is on my pinterest board, Kitchen Keepers.

Do you have a kitchen command center? If so, where did you find the inspiration for it?

Have a lovely Saturday!

Setting goals for the New Year

Hi Lovelies!

I've decided that this year instead of making New Year's Resolutions, I'm making small goals for every month in 2014. I'll list them out and at the end of the month I'll recap how I have done with the goals that I have set for myself. So, we we go!

January Goals:

Spend time in the Word

In order to accomplish this I plan on participating in several Bible studies over the next few months. I want to begin and end my day in scripture and I want to include the word of God in my daily life.

Drink more water

I know I drink alot of water, but lately I have slacked off. So I hope to get better with this goal throughout the month.

Be healthier

I have recently rejoined Weight Watchers and I plan on making this a lifestyle style change instead of just a diet. I will do updates here and there on my progress throughout the year. Hopefully by doing this it will keep more accountable.

Use my calendar more

I have a Erin Condren Life Planner and Daytimer Family Planner that I use, however, I have slacked off on updating them in the last few weeks. My hope for this month is to update them more often and actually use them more often as well.

Put my phone down

I admit, even though I use a Tracfone prepaid cell phone, I need to put the phone down during the day. I have gotten into the habit of checking Facebook and Twitter multiple times throughout the day and this needs to stop now. I hope I can make this happen.

Be more present

I want to more memories with my family  and just enjoy the special moments that we have together. I want to be in the moment with my family and to just enjoy this time that we have together.

Do you make New Year's Resolutions or do set monthly goals throughout the year?

Have a lovely day!
